Sunday Briefing: Sunday Million Ends in a Three-Way Deal

With the poker community’s attention being firmly on the 2018 World Series of Poker and football fans from around the globe taking time from the virtual felt to watch the 2018 World Cup in Russia, there was plenty of value to be had in online poker’s Sunday Majors. Let’s take a look at who took full advantage of fields that were less shark infested and walked away with big scores.

PokerStars Sunday Million

A field of 4,915 in the Sunday Million meant an overlay of $17,000, something of a rarity at PokerStars. Those who finished in the top 872 places were not bothered because it meant they got their hands on some extra value.

Each of the nine players at the final table locked up at least $7,955 and it was “TresBizzo” of the United Kingdom who bust in ninth-place.

Next to fall was Sweden’s Andreas “mrAndreeew” Berggren who reached the Sunday Million final table last week, finishing third. Berggren ran pocket jacks into the red kings of “fabregarp” to see his tournament come to an abrupt end in eighth-place.

Pedro “gusmaa” Madeira then found his jacks cracked by fabregarp, this time by ace-king courtesy of an ace on the flop, and was left with only two big blinds. These went into the middle of the table with ten-eight after “nils_yin” had opened the betting with ace-six. Three queens on the board meant the players played their hole cards as kickers, nils_yins’ were the better and the player count was reduced by one..

nils_yin bust in sixth-place after a rollercoaster of event saw their stack swing wildly, then fabregarp joined them on the rail in fifth-place before “SB8888” of the Ukraine made a move with king-six and fell foul to the red tens in the hand of “pradgen.”

SB8888’s exit left only three players in contention for the title and this trio paused the tournament clock to discuss a deal. An ICM deal was agreed up, one that left $20,000 more for the champion, and play resumed.

Pettas “psfin” Foivos fell in third-place when he moved all-in for 16 big blinds with queen-jack and lost to the ace-nine of pradgen who flopped two pair.

The hand that turned the tournament around saw F.mca777 crack aces with ten-eight. F.mca777 flopped an open-ended straight draw, which came in on the turn. F.mca777 then whittled padgen’s stack down to 15 big blinds and they went into the middle with pradgen holding a pair of three. F.mca777 called with pocket fours and that was the end of this week’s Sunday Million.

PokerStars Sunday High Roller: $100K Gtd

The PokerStars Sunday High Roller saw its final table dominated by players from Scandinavia with five players hailing from Finland and Sweden reaching the final eight places where the $132,000 prize pool was distributed.

Jan-Mikael “Kesjan” Kesanen walked away with the lion’s share of the prize pool, $41,015, thanks to being the last man standing. Kesanen defeated Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson heads-up to scoop the title and leave his Swedish opponent to bank $25,811.

Some of the other stars at the final table included third-place finisher Tomi “elmerixx” Brouk, fourth-placed Niklas “Lena900” Astedt, seventh-place finisher Artem “veeea” Vezhenkov and eighth-placed Lucas “YRWTHMELTHR” Greenwood.

partypoker Super Sunday High Roller

This weekend’s partypoker Super Sunday High Roller saw 36 player exchange $2,600 for the chance to win partypoker’s biggest buy-in weekly event. This meant a prize pool of $90,000 was created and this was shared among the top five finishers.

“Specter_Litt” was the first player to receive some prize money, namely $6,750, and they were followed to the sidelines by “mask0ff” and Uruguay’s Fabrizio “DrMiKee” Gonzalez.

The heads-up battle was between “KONY2012” and “LoSientoGrace” and it was the latter who emerged victorious to bank $36,450.

LoSientoGrace is in hot form right now having won back-to-back KO Series tournaments a couple of weeks ago. This result seems to suggest the heater is still burning strong.

partypoker 1K Big Bounty Hunter

“Thanks-Dude” is almost $37,000 richer than they were on Sunday morning thanks to taking down the partypoker 1K Big Bounty Hunter. Thanks-Dude outlasted 197 opponents to get their hands on $19,440 plus an additional $17,249 worth of bounty payments.

Team partypoker’s Roberto “WelshWizard” Romanello was the final table’s first casualty, his eighth-place finish banking the Welshman $2,210 plus $5,980 worth of bounties.

Fabrizio “DrMiKee” Gonzalez, “CDarwin1”, “letsgodancing” and “MAM0HT_T” then exited in seventh-place through fourth-place, leaving a trio of players in the hunt for the title.

“Aspartam1967” crashed out in third-place for $10,444 plus $6,938 worth of bounties and this left “P0L4R1C3” and “Thanks-Dube” to battle it out heads-up. It was a battle that Thanks-Dude would ultimately win, meaning they added $19,440 to their bankroll from the main prize pool and an additional $17,249 from the bounty prize pool.

888poker $50,000 Whale

The $50,000 Whale at 888poker saw it’s guarantee smashed by $17,000 an it was Russia’s “sweet_dr34ms” who took full advantage of the swollen prize pool, topping a field of 67 entrants to turn $1,050 into $24,790.

Sweet_dr34ms defeated Sweden’s “tigerhoods62” heads-up to claim the title and the largest cash prize, resigning the runner-up to a $16,750 consolation prize.

Only six players were paid in this tournament due to the compact field size. “Anteen” exited in sixth, “HateH4teHate” of Malta fell in fifth, “EnvomiYa” bust in fourth place and “Jonie181” of Brazil was the third-place finisher.

888poker $75,000 Sunday Mega Deep

“Josetecrazy” was crowned the 888poker $75,000 Sunday Mega Deep champion, an accolade worth $15,483 in cash, a superb return on a $215 investment. The winner, who hails from the United Kingdom, defeated “Bullflag” heads-up to resign the second-place finisher to the $11,513 consolation prize.

Another British player in Ian “Simpioni” Simpson reached the eight-handed final table but was the first player to fall at it. Alessandro “ZeroNineee” Valli and Joao “joao_mathias” Baumgarten were just two of the other big names to reach the final table.
