Young named Bryant’s data science executive in residence

SMITHFIELD – John Young, the former chief analytics officer for Epsilon, has been named the executive in residence for Bryant University’s data science program, the school announced.

“Bryant’s investment in the data science program is reflective of the university’s continuing commitment to academic innovation and excellence,” said College of Business Dean Madan Annavarjula in prepared remarks. “John Young brings critical industry insight and a forward-thinking approach that will contribute to the growth and success of the program. We look forward to welcoming him to our community of scholars.”

Young’s tenure, which became effective in January, will see him work with information systems and analytics professors to grow the school’s data science program and use his time in the industry to develop corporate partnerships.

“I’m excited to move into this unique role at Bryant,” said Young in a statement. “Helping to train the next generation of data scientists is very appealing and a great way to continue to contribute to a field that is increasingly important to the global economy. There’s a huge gap in supply and demand for qualified analysts and data scientists, and Bryant is taking steps to help address this marketplace need.”

Young comes to Bryant with a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science degree in economics from Colorado State University. He began his career as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City before moving to Epsilon in 1994. The company is now a $2.3 billion global marketing services firm at which Young and his former team of programmers, analysts, statisticians and consultants helped Fortune 500 brands such as Bank of America, Hilton and FedEx improve performance and customer experiences through measurement, analysis and optimization.
