Continuous crime fighting initiatives in the Nyanga Cluster proved fruitful with the arrest of 310 suspects on various charges during the past week ending 20 January 2018.

The focused and intelligence driven operations concentrated on serious and violent crimes as well as gang and drug related activities.

Endeavors led to the searching of 125 known drug outlets which saw a variety of drugs comprising heroin, tik, dagga mandrax and khat being confiscated.

Nine suspects were apprehended for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, and five firearms were confiscated.

During the visits at illegal liquor outlets, 24 suspects were arrested for contravening the Liquor Act and 357 liters of alcohol were seized.

A total of 53 wanted suspects were arrested on outstanding cases and 47 suspects were apprehended for crimes perpetrated against women.

The above figures are included in the total of 310.

Lt Gen KE Jula, Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape expressed his appreciation towards his members and to all the law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watches and street committees who contributed to the significant outcome of the operations.
