Michelle Obama tickets for Bankers Life talk still available, but they're pricey

First lady Michelle Obama takes the stage during the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July 2016.

If you want to get tickets to see Michelle Obama in Indianapolis next month, it will cost at least $250, maybe more.

After some initial confusion Friday morning and an overwhelming demand on the Ticketmaster website, it became clear within the first hour of open ticket sales that the cheap seats, starting at $25, were gone in a flash. However, lower level and floor seats ($250-$500) are still available, according to an employee at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office. He estimated that several hundred seats remain.

Additionally, tickets are available on the secondary market. StubHub had balcony tickets selling for $215 and floor seats priced at $950.

The former first lady will be in Indianapolis to speak at an event presented by Women's Fund of Central Indiana.

The philanthropic group will host "A Moderated Conversation with Former First Lady Michelle Obama" at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at Bankers Life, 125 S. Pennsylvania St.

Jennifer Pope Baker, executive director of the organization, said a limited number of presale tickets were made available to board members and donors.

"We are not surprised that the balcony seats sold so quickly, and we are confident the rest of the tickets will sell out as well," she told IndyStar.

Baker said the response to Obama's planned visit has been "amazing."

"We knew people would be excited, but the sheer number of people who are interested has far exceeded our expectations," she said. "Not only is our own community excited, but we know of people coming from Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, Panama City, Fla., even London and Tokyo."

Alecia DeCoudreaux will serve as moderator for the evening. Event sponsors include Cindy Simon Skjodt, Derica Rice and Robin Nelson-Rice and Deborah Joy Simon.

The Women's Fund was founded in 1996 and is now a special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF). The fund invests in the lives of women and girls in Central Indiana.
