The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has named Michael Haldeman, owner of SpokeWorks Bicycle Workshop in Summerville, as South Carolina’s Small Business Person of the Year. Haldeman will be recognized at the National Small Business Week awards ceremony on May 5 in Washington, D.C.
Haldeman was selected for SpokeWorks’ growth, innovation and contributions to the local economy. He is also a contender for the National Small Business Person of the Year award.
“We are proud to announce these winners and look forward to celebrating them during South Carolina’s National Small Business Week,” said South Carolina SBA District Director Melissa Lindler. “The awards showcase the achievements of these outstanding small businesses and lenders who are making a difference in our state by creating jobs, increasing economic prosperity, and helping their communities thrive.”
SpokeWorks Bicycle Workshop, which Haldeman founded, has become known for its strong customer service, commitment to cycling advocacy and community involvement. Under his leadership, the business has experienced steady growth while also supporting local biking initiatives.
National Small Business Week, taking place from May 4 to 10, will feature a national roadshow with SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler, a two-day virtual summit, and sessions on topics such as digital marketing, cybersecurity, and manufacturing. The event will highlight small business success stories and provide resources for entrepreneurs.
In addition to Haldeman, other South Carolina business leaders will be recognized for their contributions. Lisa Tanner of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions in Aiken will receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence, while Darris Stoll of Stoll Industries in Abbeville has been named Small Business Exporter of the Year.
State-level awards will also be presented, including Female Small Business Person of the Year, Veteran Small Business of the Year, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Lender awards will recognize banks and financial institutions supporting small business growth in the state.
South Carolina’s award winners will be honored at the 12th annual Small Business Week Conference in Columbia on May 9. For more information on National Small Business Week events and registration details, visit www.sba.gov/NSBW.
