Feeding Texas urges legislators to help streamline the SNAP eligibility process

TEXAS (KAUZ) - The Feeding Texas network and Texas Food Policy Roundtable are urging lawmakers to pass HB 2202 and SB 1031.
Feeding Texas said these companion bills would streamline six-month SNAP eligibility checks and decrease error rates by using technology and verified data sources to save the state time and money.
Currently, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requires SNAP recipients to provide updated information about their household circumstances every six months to ensure that they are still eligible.
With HHSC’s current system, employees must manually verify each eligibility check. Feeding Texas said that passing HB 2202 and SB 1031 would minimize the risk of human error and streamline the process
According to Feeding Texas, Texas is one of the five states to have not adopted a streamlined process for SNAP eligibility checks.
