Sean Van Moorleghem replaces Cambridge's former CTO Nick Graham, who left the IBD at the end of last year.
Cambridge Investment Research has hired Sean Van Moorleghem as executive vice president and chief technology officer, succeeding Nick Graham, who stepped down at the end of 2024. WealthManagement.com was the first to report Graham’s quiet departure from the independent broker/dealer in January.
Most recently, Van Moorleghem was at Charles Schwab in technology leadership roles. Prior to that, he was at TD Ameritrade as a managing director and head of clearing technologies, until it was acquired by Schwab in 2020. In these roles, he led multiple software engineering departments.
At Cambridge, he’ll be responsible for the IBD’s technology initiatives, including the development and execution of products, services and systems. He’ll also serve on Cambridge’s Executive Council.
"Sean is an experienced technologist with an impressive track record of leading successful digital transformations at some of the largest companies in our industry," said Colleen Bell, president of innovation and experience at Cambridge. “As we continue our mission to build an industry-leading technology platform, Sean's experience leading technology, digital transformation, and AI personalization will be invaluable."
Van Moorleghem’s hire was the result of an executive search following Graham’s departure. Graham joined Cambridge in 2017 as CTO, charged with innovating the IBD’s advisor workstation. He also sat on Cambridge’s board of directors. He replaced Ryan Reineke, who was serving as chief operations and technology officer then. (Reineke is currently the chief operating officer at Invent.us.)
About a year ago, Cambridge launched a new RIA aimed at smaller, fee-only advisors looking for flexible acquisition options. BridgePort Financial Solutions is a standalone entity from Cambridge’s corporate RIA and broker/dealer, and it takes minority, majority or full ownership stakes in the advisor businesses that join the platform. The firm hired Eddie Rollins, who previously led distribution efforts at Horizon Investments, as managing director of BridgePort.
Cambridge currently has more than 3,800 financial advisors across the country.
