Baarashu Constituency MP Ibrahim Shujau has claimed that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is concerned because the current administration is working for the benefit of the people.

Shujau made the remarks in a post on X, responding to opposition allegations that the government is printing money. He dismissed the claims, stating that the government has no plans to print money.

He added that the MDP is alarmed because the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is actively working to manage debts that the opposition believed were unpayable.

Shujau’s comments come amid speculation that the government is seeking to raise over MVR 14 billion through the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) by purchasing land in Hulhumae'.

The opposition MDP has urged both the MMA and the government to halt the land purchase, calling for the resignation of MMA board members if the plan proceeds.

Earlier, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated that the government had ceased printing money since taking office, emphasizing that it is not a sustainable or responsible financial practice.
