SAN GABRIEL VALLEY BASEBALL TOP 15

(Records through Sunday, March 24)

1. San Dimas (12-2)

The Saints finally have hit their stride, winning 10 straight, including last week’s two-game sweep of Charter Oak to take over the top spot in the SGV rankings. They’re getting solid pitching to go with the most potent offensive lineup in the area. They have moved to No. 6 in the CIF-SS Division 1 rankings.

2. La Mirada (10-3)

The Matadores got a huge two-game sweep of Warren last week, winning 14-3 and 8-4, to run their winning streak to seven games/ They are 4-1 in the Gateway League. They have big games Tuesday and Thursday at Downey, which is the only team to beat them in league this season.

3. Maranatha (8-2)

The Minutemen took a bad loss to Cerritos Valley Christian, 15-14, in the Olympic League. They beat Valley Christian later in the week, but it was the kind of loss that drops them from the top spot in our rankings. They have nonleague games against Glendora and El Rancho this week.

4. Bishop Amat (11-2)

The Lancers lost for the first time this month, falling to Paraclete 1-0 in eight innings. It was also their first Del Rey League loss. They have nonleague games against La Serna and Santa Fe before resuming league action next week. They are 7-1 in league with a two-game lead, so they’re in a good spot.

5. South Hills (11-4)

The Huskies swept Rowland 15-0 and 18-0 to open the Hacienda League, and there could be more lopsided wins in league for the super talented Huskies. They have two games against Los Altos this week.

6. Arcadia (11-3)

The Apaches are 6-0 in the Pacific League, but had their 10-game winning streak snapped as they split a pair of nonleague games with Gahr. They have two games against Muir this week. Their toughest league games, against Burroughs and Crescenta Valley, will come in the final weeks of league.

7. La Salle (10-4)

The Lancers have shown some inconsistency, but got a big win over Serra 3-1 Friday. That gave coach Andy Nieto his 400th career victory and also moved them to 5-3 in the Del Rey League, two games back of Bishop Amat.

8. Bonita (9-4)

The Bearcats go into their spring break on a six game winning streak and are 6-0 in the Palomares League. This is more like the Bearcats team we’re accustomed to seeing.

9. La Habra (13-4)

The Highlanders are ranked No. 10 in Division 3 and finally start the Freeway League this week. They’re certainly prepared after facing tough competition in losses to Servite, Santa Margarita and St. John Bosco. They have won six straight.

10. San Marino (12-3)

The Titans got a split of their two games with Monrovia last week to move to 4-2 in the Rio Hondo League. They have a half-game lead over South Pasadena and full game over the Wildcats. The Titans are a team to watch in Division 4.
