Binyamin Netanyahu is at loggerheads with Israel’s business leaders after they told him his proposals to limit the powers of the judiciary threatened the country’s financial reputation.

Professor Amir Yaron, the central bank governor, met the newly elected prime minister on Tuesday to warn him that international business leaders and bankers said the planned reforms could harm investment.

Yaron, who requested an urgent meeting with Netanyahu after returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos, also said that the changes could harm the country’s credit rating.

In an open letter, two former governors of the Bank of Israel, both appointed by Netanyahu, repeated similar warnings. A member of the central bank’s monetary committee has resigned to join the protests.
