Prep rewind: Hamilton, Holland Christian volleyball set up showdown

The Hamilton and Holland Christian volleyball teams will face off in the OK Green tournament.

The Hamilton volleyball team defeated Allendale 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 in the OK Blue Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Hawkeyes improved to 16-3 overall.

AJ Ediger led the Hawkeyes with 16 kills. Jer Hoppes had six kills and Kyra Kleinheksel added four.

Joelle Boeskool had 18 assists and Alyssa Borgman had 15. Hoppes had 13 digs, while Ediger had 11 and Jen Johnson had nine.

The Hawkeyes will host Holland Christian in the semifinals next Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Holland Christian defeated Coopersville 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 28-26.

Ellie DeVries led the Maroons with 37 assists and four kills.

Emily Vos had 11 kills and seven digs. Avery Huisman had 11 kills, while Anna York totaled seven kills and three blocks. Ryanne VanWyk chipped in with fie kills.

Defensively, Dilyn Duryee had 19 digs and Cassidy Mitchell had 11.

VOLLEYBALL

Dux top Dutch

The Zeeland West volleyball team defeated Holland 25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 25-22 in the OK Green Conference tournament quarterfinals.

Abby Winn posted 20 kills for the Dux, while Lindy Gulker added 12. Lindsey Houle dished out 41 assists and had nine digs.

Marcy Creevy led the defense with 12 digs, while Aaliyah Ybarra had nine and Winn had seven. Taylor Zwagerman served seven aces and Houle had four.

For Holland, Aaliyah Smith had 14 kills, 11 digs and eight blocks. Ashley Hoebbel had eight digs, five kills and three aces for the Dutch. Emily Telgenhof had 21 assists and nine digs. Brooke Wehrmeyer had 16 digs and six kills.

Panthers fall in 4

West Ottawa lost to Jenison 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18.

“It was a tough night for the team with a very slow start. It wasn’t until the third set that the team found their rhythm. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough with a tough loss in the fourth,” West Ottawa coach Kaitlyn Lawton said.

River Rats fall

Black River lost 24-26, 18-25, 25-23, 26-24 to Kalamazoo Heritage Christian.

CROSS COUNTRY

Hawkeyes sweep Wayland invite

The Hamilton boys and girls cross country teams won the Wayland invite.

The boys won with 50 points, ahead of Unity Christian (51), Comstock Park (73), Wayland (82), Fennville (113) and Hopkins (148).

Fennville’s Jonathan Mendoza finished sixth (18:23.56).

Hamilton’s Max VanHuis took seventh (18:32.40), Nate Freyhof was ninth (18:52.79), Josh Langeland was 13th (19:08.91), Evan Kraker was 15th (19:31.68) and Josiah Banks was 16th (19:37.39).

In the girls race, Hamilton had 55, followed by Wayland (56), Unity Christian (67), Hopkins (101), Comstock Park (129), Fennville (137) and Martin (148).

Hamilton’s Bella Charron was fourth (21:46.85). Trina Farris was sixth (22:05.5), Aubrey Sibble was eighth (22:48.46) and Alexa VanderKamp was 15th (23:30.82).

Fennville’s Angelica Mendoza was seventh (22:46.43).

Panthers split with Grand Haven

The West Ottawa girls cross country team defeated Grand Haven 22-35.

Arianne Olson finished second (19:18.00), followed by Sophie Bonnema (19:22.00) and Abby Bonnema (19:26.50). Megan Postma was sixth (20:27.20) and Kaia Denhof was seventh (20:36.10).

The West Ottawa boys lost 20-41. Carston Cole won the race in 16:36.80. Connor Wooley was seventh (17:23.00).

GIRLS SWIMMING

Maroons top Spring Lake

Holland Christian defeated Spring Lake 102-83.

Meghan Bengelink won the 200 freestyle (2:03.55) and the 100 freestyle (56.00). Zoe DeKievit won the 200 IM (2:15.29). Emily Asselin won the 50 freestyle (25.97). Natalie DuBois won diving (234.90 points). Eden Siegers won the 500 freestyle (5:51.11).
