CHARLOTTE – John Silvia, the outspoken economist who often livened up events in Raleigh with his often riveting commentaries, is now the Director of Economics at Charlotte-based Carolinas Investment Consulting.

Silvia recently left his position as managing director and chief economist at Wells Fargo.

Before retiring from the bank, Silvia was a regular speaker at annual kickoff economic events in the Triangle, not being reluctant to talk about the importance of education and the need to focus on the basics of economics in order to drive personal as well as business growth. He has been a fixture in economic circles since 2002 starting at Wachovia as chief economist and retired from Wells Fargo earlier this year.

An author, Silvia at one time was chief economist at Kemper Funds and worked on Capitol Hill as a senior economist for the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee and as Chief Economist of Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
