Zimbabwe gives Mugabe power to appoint judges
Harare - Zimbabwe's parliament on Tuesday passed a bill amending the constitution to give the president sweeping powers to appoint the country's top judges without consulting any other institution.
If passed into law, the bill will give Robert Mugabe the sole responsibility to appoint the chief justice and their deputy.
Under the 2013 constitution, the president could only appoint a chief justice from individuals recommended by the judicial services commission and after public interviews of the candidates.

Grace Mugabe admits 'sleepless nights' as sons go wild in SA... suspects 'evil spirits'
Harare – Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe has reportedly admitted that her two sons – Robert Junior and Chatunga Bellarmine – have become wild and have taken to beer binges and drugs.
According to NewsDay, Grace said that her two sons were giving her "sleepless nights".
The Mugabe sons made headlines recently after they were evicted from a luxury apartmentblock in Johannesburg’s affluent Sandton area because of their "unacceptable behavior".

'There is no cash crisis in Zimbabwe,' says Finance minister
Harare – Zimbabwe's finance minister Patrick Chinamasa has denied the biting cash shortages, saying "the government was satisfied with the prevailing liquidity position in the country,” says a report.
According to NewsDay, speaking at the unveiling of a low-density housing project in Masvingo, Chinamasa said that the government was working hard in addressing the movement of money through proper banking channels.
Chinamasa said that the increase in the construction of high-rise buildings across the country was evidence that citizens had the cash that they required.

Court frees Nigerian man who named his dog after President Buhari
Lagos – A Nigerian court has reportedly dismissed charges filed against a man in Ogun state, who named his dog 'Buhari'.
The man was freed after his case had dragged on for nearly a year on charges of "disturbing public peace".
According to Vanguard, a magistrate's court found that the prosecution had failed to substantiate the charges against Joachim Iroko.

'I couldn't feel my legs,' says man hurt when Gabon cops broke up rally for Ping
Libreville - Ten people were injured in Libreville on Tuesday as Gabon police broke up a rally organised to mark the return of opposition leader Jean Ping following a trip to Europe.
The interior ministry said there were "no deaths and no injuries" during the demonstration, according to spokesperson Jean-Eric Mangala.
But an AFP journalist at the scene saw the injured receiving first aid at Ping's headquarters where the former foreign minister had addressed thousands of his supporters following his return from a European tour.

Boko Haram ambushes oil convoy in Nigeria, killing soldiers
Maiduguri - Authorities in northern Nigeria say roughly 10 military personnel have been killed and a similar number of university workers are unaccounted for after Boko Haram extremists attacked their convoy.
The secretary of the Hunters Association in Borno State, Bunu Bukar, says members of the self-defence group saw the bodies of military personnel after the ambush on Tuesday.

MDC appeals to SADC, AU and UN over violence in Zim
Mazowe – Zimbabwe's main opposition, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party has appealed to regional and international bodies to rein in President Robert Mugabe over an upsurge in politically motivated violence in the southern African country.
Mugabe told his party faithful at a rally held at Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane district last week that his supporters should beat-up people going around perpetrating violence using his ruling Zanu-PF party’s name.
