HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 25 (ACN) At the 2024 annual review meeting of the banking and financial system, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel remarked that the celebration this year of the 65th anniversary of the nationalization of the banks should motivate its workers to meet the goals for 2025 and become more efficient and praised their major role in the implementation of the Government Program to revive the economy and correct distortions.

Among the year’s objectives presented by Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba, are the transformation of the foreign exchange market, the consolidation of the bankarization process, and the increase and diversification of the country's foreign income sources.

In this regard, Díaz-Canel asked executives and specialists to find ways to gradually recover the flow of remittances, promote monetary and fiscal policies with due regard to their social impact, and improve the working conditions and work environment of the branches, as well as the quality of their customer services so as to streamline or simplify operations.

Díaz-Canel also referred to the digital transformation as a possible solution to the ongoing labor exodus across the economy and to the need of promoting the use of science, innovation, and institutional and political communication, and urged bank workers to be more active in the social networks and digital platforms in order to counter the lies and distortions of the enemies of the Revolution.

Among the topics bound to take center stage this year are the rising inflation rate cause by the increase of money in circulation, the use of electronic payment channels, service quality, technological transformation, macroeconomic stabilization, and financial stability.

The Cuban Central Bank report also highlighted the fact that the country still boasts recognition for its results in the prevention of and fight against both money laundering and the funding of terrorism.
