Government in Suriname concerned about rise in crime

Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi has sought to reassuring citizens that his administration is creating a safe environment in which they can strive as the country deals with an upsurge in criminal activities.

President Santokhi met with various government officials and security agencies, expressing concern over the recent cases of crime.

He says a new approach is needed.

The president has instructed the various stakeholders to work harder so that the situation is brought under control and safety is maintained.
